About The Ellington

The Ellington opened its doors on Broadway in September 2021 with a simple intention: to be the kind of place the Upper West Side actually needed. Not a concept, not a chain. Just a proper neighbourhood restaurant where the food is honest, the welcome is warm, and you always want to come back. Find us at 2745 Broadway, steps from Riverside Park and Columbia University.

The kitchen is led by proprietor Glenda Sansone and her culinary team, who take classic American cooking and give it a little more care than you'd expect. The menu covers a lot of ground signature burgers, steak, a Sunday roast that's become something of a weekly ritual for regulars, weekend brunch, and a kids' menu that means the whole family is genuinely catered for. The drinks list is equally considered, with fine wines, spirits and a solid selection of beers to match whatever the occasion calls for.

Weekends at The Ellington

On weekends the room comes alive. Saturday afternoons bring a live DJ brunch from noon until 3pm. Sundays it is jazz: a proper live jazz brunch that has become one of the highlights of the Upper West Side weekend. Both are open to all diners without a cover charge. Walk-ins welcome at the bar.

The Space

The main dining room seats 130, the bar area fits 40, and in spring and summer the glass-enclosed outdoor patio opens up one of the best people-watching spots on the whole stretch of Broadway, with room for up to 100 guests. For private occasions, there is a dedicated glass-enclosed dining room that seats 55 for a sit-down dinner or up to 70 for a cocktail reception ideal for weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, corporate gatherings, or any celebration worth doing properly.
